As you spread this whipped body butter on your skin, take a deep breath and enjoy the natural scent of shea. It has a distinct nut smell that dominates the main fragrance. Shea butter has wonderful benefits for your skin such as it’s anti-inflammatory properties. It’s a powerful moisturizer and also contains natural sunscreen properties.

Along with shea butter, I used coconut and sesame oil to give this body butter its lovely thick consistency. Sesame oil is wonderful for the skin because it’s high in antioxidants and antibacterial properties.

Coconut oil improves your skin elasticity and increases collagen production

Arrowroot Powder is also used as it gives the finished body butter a soft silky powdery feel.

The recipe can be doubled but it’s nice to start out with a smaller size batch as this will go a long way. I made this using my stick blender with the whisk attachment. A hand mixer would be great for whipping this butter up.

Body OIl

I made a double boiler by placing my glass measuring cup inside a pan of boiling water. My warmer burner kept this to a low boil. When working with butters you will find they melt very quickly and it’s best to use a very low heat.

The first thing I did was melt the shea butter and the coconut oil. The shea butter will take a little longer that the coconut oil to melt. Turn the heat off when the shea butter is close to completely melted. Time to mix in the sesame oil and set bowl in the refrigerator to cool. It took an hour and a half to get to the stage I was looking for.

At this point I started whipping all the amazing oils together. Before long they started to emulsify. This was the point where I added in the arrowroot powder. I continued whipping the butter until it became a thick white fluffy mixture.

Creamy Body Butter

This creamy lotion will leave your skin feeling amazingly soft and moisturized. Start out with a small amount. You will find that it goes a long way. Shea butter can feel sticky at first touch but will quickly absorb into your skin.
